Reclaiming Freedom

I joined facebook in November 2004.

Today, a bit of my freedom was reclaimed: my accounted is deleted.

Not logged out. Not uninstalled from my phone. Not deactivated.

DELETED.

Facebook didn’t make it easy, requiring a 30 day wait before the deleting 16 years of my online life.

I already feel freer to explore different interests and see what happens creatively with the extra time. I already feel more present. My mental bandwidth has already seen an increase.

I’ve justified my “why” for having facebook for a number of different reasons:

  • I’ll need it to keep in contact with friends and family
  • I’ll need a way to share the things I am working on
  • I’ll need the groups to find a place to stay when traveling.

I’ve never really challenged those justifications. Now the delicious challenge becomes: “how might I do those things without facebook/social media?”

Excited to work out my inner resourcefulness muscle with this challenge.

To growth and love
